Where the money goes
Most of what we raise pays for student housing. A large share pays journal fees. We keep the team small so the rest stays small too.
Band widths show the order of spending, largest first. They are not audited shares.
In order of size
- Housing for students in unpaid research positions
- Journal fees, so finished work gets published
- Living stipends, books, and preparation
Where the money comes from
Company gifts and economic opportunity grants. We write every proposal ourselves. See grant writing.
What we do not spend on
We do not buy advertising. We do not run paid courses or events. A small team of college students runs SRI, and we keep it small on purpose: every dollar that goes to marketing is a dollar that does not reach a student.
What you hear back
We tell each company what its gift paid for: the kind of position, the costs covered, and what the student produced.

For companies and foundations
Fund a student researcher
Your gift pays for rent, a stipend, books, or a journal fee. It goes to a student who has the position and lacks the money to take it.
