Questions and answers
Short answers for students and for companies.
For students
Who can apply?
High school and college students who hold an offer for a research position and cannot afford to take it. Most of our students work in the health sciences, the life sciences, or health economics.
What do you pay for?
Housing near the lab, a living stipend, books and prep materials, journal fees, and the cost of presenting the work. See what we fund.
Do I need the position before I apply?
Yes. We fund students who already hold an offer. If you are still looking, start with the paid programs directory and the student toolkit.
Do you fund positions that already pay?
If the pay does not cover the cost of taking the position, apply and show us the gap.
Should I try my own campus first?
Yes. Many universities run their own research funds. The campuses page links to the office at each school where our students work.
For companies
What does a gift pay for?
One named cost for one student: a summer of rent, a stipend, a book budget, or a journal fee. Larger gifts fund several students or a named fellowship. See ways to give.
How much reaches students?
We run on a small student team. We do not buy advertising and we do not run paid programs. See where the money goes.
Will we hear what the gift did?
Yes. We tell you the kind of position, the costs covered, and what the student produced.
Can employees get involved?
Yes. Scientists and analysts at partner companies can mentor students or host a lab visit. Tell us on the partnership form.

Where do your statistics come from?
Every number on this site links to a named source. The sources page lists all of them and shows where we use each one. Our standards explain how we check them.
Can foundations, labs, or individuals help?
Yes. See every way to help.
