What happened
Students we funded carried out research on health inequality. The Boston Congress of Public Health has used that research.
The research exists because we paid for it. The students held positions that did not pay. Without a gift to cover their costs, they would have taken other work, and the research would not have been done.
Who the Boston Congress of Public Health is
The Boston Congress of Public Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in August 2021. Its stated mission is to democratize public health through the lens of social justice. It runs training and fellowship programs, and it publishes a peer-reviewed public health journal focused on health equity.1
Why this matters to a company
Most student research ends as a poster. This work reached an organization that trains public health professionals and publishes on health equity. A gift to SRI paid for a student's summer, and it produced research that people outside the lab now use.
The gap this research addresses is large. In the United States, the richest 1 percent of men live 14.6 years longer than the poorest 1 percent. For women the gap is 10.1 years.2 Read why we fund health inequality research.
